I think that Paul would say that today was a pretty good day. Whenever he has a good day, he tells me about it. "Today was a pretty good day. Church went well, you made a delicious dinner, I got to spend lots of time with the girls and holding the baby, and now I get to go to bed early." I like it when Paul tells me that he's had a good day. Usually he only says this on the weekends, so I don't know if the weekdays are good or not. I hope that they are. What Paul likes more than anything is having a balanced life- getting to do all the things the he wants to. Of all of the things that he wants to do in a day, though (reading the paper online, doing a little economics, jogging, eating good food, taking a nap, talking to me, hanging out with the kids), hanging out with the kids is his favorite. He'd like hanging out with me the most if I weren't such a pain lately.
Paul is a great dad. Some of the things that he likes to do with the kids are funny- like looking at the weekly shopping ads with them to pick out things they like to eat. He loves to teach them new things, and coo at the baby. He loves to read to the girls and take them to do fun things like going to the carousel or going for walks. You can tell that the kids like him- even though Paul complains that Clark cries more for him, Clark also likes to smile at him, and sits contentedly in his lap. And Camille and Grace are always excited when he comes home. Even though Paul is more of a rule-maker than me, they don't dislike him for this. They love to talk with him about things, and know that he will be a great playmate in whatever make-believe land they are in.
I feel very lucky to have Paul for my husband. He's taught me a lot about patience and parenting. I wouldn't love having kids as much if it wasn't for his great example and getting to be a partner with him. I think that we're a pretty good team.
